Middleburgh Recovery

Middleburgh Church and Community Needs

Work on the fellowship hall is almost done!!!  It will be used as a temporary worship space and for other activities. Work on the sanctuary should start soon.

Middleburgh Nursery Project

Middleburgh's Nursery also needs:

A bookshelf, a rocking chair and a new 5x7 or 8x10 carpet remnant.  The nursery walls are a light yellow.  Contact Nancy McNiven at the synod ofice for details: (518) 374-4573 or nmcniven@albanysynod.org

The Mission Working Group of Albany Synod encourages congregations, groups and individuals to help Middleburgh Reformed Church refurbish their nursery. Track the progress of this project on the mission group’s new Facebook, coming out later this month.

Prattsville Recovery

Reformed Church of Prattsville

A new year brought a qualified electrician to work in the parsonage!

After insulation is blown into the parsonage walls, watch for an update of volunteer needs in the parsonage.

Volunteers are still needed in the village. Call Tracy and Charlie Gockel at 518-925-4861 at the Huntersfield Christian Training Center. Limited housing is available.

 

Bruce and Laurie Hawley will coordinate work groups in Prattsville April 14 through June 16.  Watch future Currents and our website for more information on how you can be part of this exciting time.

Rotterdam Junction Recovery

Schenectady County Recovery, Rotterdam Junction, the Stockade….

For all the information on first response and long-term recovery efforts go to the Flood Recovery Coalition for Schenectady County’s website, www.floodhelpschenectady.org

All volunteer opportunities are listed there. They include skilled and un-skilled labor, administration skills, meal preparation, and much, much more. The office is located at St. Margaret’s Church Rectory (behind the church at 1228 Main Street) in Rotterdam Junction. It’s open Tuesday through Saturday, 10-3. (flexible) Call 518-557-7976.

The coalition specifically needs groups to provide lunch for about 15-20 people every Wednesday and Saturday.

Schoharie Recovery

Substantial work is starting in the Heritage House. Work is also needed in the sanctuary. To volunteer for either the church property or Schoharie Recovery call any of these three numbers: 390-2811, 390-8826, or 390-8529. Work- days are Thursday –Saturday, 9-4 and Sunday 10:15-4:00.

Meals for the community, staff and some volunteers are still needed each day, 11:30-1:30. The Loaves and Fishes Café was featured in the New York Times under dining on Wednesday, January 11, 2012. Continued thanks to all the congregations and individuals who supply food and serve at the café!!!

Seminars

A warm welcome to participate in - “A Personal Journey of Faith.”

Niskayuna Reformed Church would like to extend an invitation to all who are interested in attending Adult Christian Education classes each Saturday morning from 9 - 10 am. in the Lounge (top floor in the Fellowship Hall) at 3041 Troy Road, in Niskayuna. In December, we will begin an overview of the Heidelberg Catechism. This is a discussion group; a lay outreach ministry geared to providing adults (18 and over) with an opportunity to enhance their "Personal Journey of Faith." Materials will be provided.
 
Classes are intended to be in relaxed, open discussion forum style. Regular attendance is not required, and all are welcome. Curriculum is provided by the RCA, the Regional Synod of Albany, Faith Alive, and other sources, as necessary.

Reducing the Risk of Child Abuse in the Church

This workshop is for congregations looking to create or revamp policies and procedures to reduce the risk of child abuse in the church. It includes a training section for those who work with children and youth.
